A microchip is a small electronic chip, about the size of a grain of rice, which is implanted under your pet's skin and contains a unique number that can be read by a scanner.
Your contact details relating to each number are logged on a central database (petlog or identibase), so should your pet ever go missing or be stolen it can be scanned and returned to you swiftly and safely. It is vital that you take responsibility for updating your details with the database should your circumstances change. It is now a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped with up to date information stored on the database.
